Modern Slavery and Ethical Labour Statement
This Modern Slavery Statement is made on behalf of Rubbish Clearance Elephant and Castle and sets out our approach to preventing modern slavery and human trafficking within our operations and supply chains. We recognise our responsibility to uphold human rights, promote fair working practices, and ensure that all individuals connected with our services are treated with dignity and respect.
Rubbish Clearance Elephant and Castle provides waste removal and related services across Elephant and Castle and surrounding areas. Our activities involve direct employees, subcontracted labour, and a range of suppliers including transport providers, equipment suppliers, and recycling and disposal facilities. We are committed to identifying and addressing any risks of modern slavery in all these areas.
Our Zero-Tolerance Policy
We operate a strict zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour, child labour, servitude, and any form of exploitation. This applies to all persons working for or on behalf of Rubbish Clearance Elephant and Castle, at every level of our business and throughout our supply chain.
All managers and supervisors are responsible for ensuring that their teams understand and uphold this policy. Any breach of our zero-tolerance stance by an employee will be treated as a serious disciplinary matter and may result in dismissal. Any supplier or contractor found to be involved in modern slavery will face immediate investigation and potential termination of our relationship.
Suppliers, Contractors and Audits
We expect all current and prospective suppliers, contractors, and business partners to share our commitment to preventing modern slavery. Our supplier onboarding process includes an assessment of labour standards, working conditions, and compliance with relevant employment and human rights legislation.
We reserve the right to conduct audits and inspections of suppliers and subcontractors who provide labour, vehicles, equipment, or waste processing services. Audits may include site visits, document checks, and confidential worker interviews where appropriate. Where non-compliance or concerns are identified, we will work with the supplier on a corrective action plan and set clear timescales for improvement. If satisfactory progress is not made, we may suspend or terminate the relationship.
We give preference to suppliers that demonstrate transparent labour practices and can evidence effective policies on modern slavery, health and safety, fair pay, and working hours.
Reporting Channels and Whistleblowing
Rubbish Clearance Elephant and Castle encourages anyone connected with our operations to report concerns about modern slavery or unethical working practices without fear of retaliation. This includes employees, agency workers, subcontractors, suppliers, and members of the public.
Concerns can be raised directly with a line manager or any member of the management team. Where an individual does not feel comfortable raising a concern locally, they may escalate it to senior management. We treat all reports sensitively and confidentially where possible and will investigate promptly and thoroughly. We will not tolerate victimisation or disadvantage of any person who raises a concern in good faith.
Training, Awareness and Continuous Improvement
We are committed to increasing awareness of modern slavery risks among our staff, particularly those involved in recruitment, procurement, and site supervision. Relevant employees receive guidance on recognising indicators of exploitation, such as restricted freedom of movement, withheld identification documents, or signs of coercion.
We regularly review our recruitment practices to ensure that all workers are engaged on fair terms, are of legal working age, and have the right to work. We aim to avoid excessive use of temporary labour and to maintain direct relationships with workers wherever possible.
Annual Review and Governance
This Modern Slavery Statement is reviewed at least once every year to ensure that it remains accurate, effective, and aligned with current legislation and best practice. The review considers any incidents reported, outcomes of supplier audits, feedback from staff, and changes in the risk profile of our operations or supply chains.
Any necessary updates to procedures, training, or supplier requirements are implemented following the review. The leadership team at Rubbish Clearance Elephant and Castle is responsible for overseeing compliance with this Statement and for ensuring that appropriate resources are allocated to prevent modern slavery in all aspects of our business.
